
Matt was born in Eugene, Oregon (1963), and grew up in Berkley Ca, and Vancouver, British Columbia. Studied Physics at Simon Frasier University in the early 80’s, and worked as a carpenter summers to pay for school, but decided to switch to Architecture in his 4th year. Did initial Architectural studies at the Oregon School of Design and graduated from the Boston Architectural Center in 1991.
Started his own Design/Build firm in 1992 in San Diego, Ca, passed the Architectural License Exam in California in 1993 and moved back to Portland, OR in 1994. Specializing in Portland Bungalow remodels with a green emphasis – converted McCune Design from a Design/Build Firm to strictly Design in 2003.
Currently practicing residential architecture in Portland OR (approximately 75% remodel and 25% new construction) and sharing office space with Green Hammer Construction and New Paradigm Engineering. Matt maintains a commitment and belief that true environmental protection must come first from the way in which humans choose to live, and the structures they inhabit.
