Aug 23 - EcoRoofs - Speaker: Tom Liptan, City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services
What's that? Up on the roof? Is that an Eco-roof?! Turning your roof into planting space might sound like a recipe for disaster but "eco-roofs" are actually light-weight, waterproof, low-maintenance roof systems of vegetation and soil. Moreover, they mitigate stormwater, improve air quality, increase evapo-transpiration, conserve energy, buffer noise, and provide habitat. Many local governments, like the City of Portland, are taking a look at eco-roofs to address water and habitat issues in urban environments. Come learn more about eco-roofs, Portland's experiences, and plans for an upcoming workshop.
