FEATURES: Energy Efficiency, Indoor Air Quality, Materials Efficiency, Advanced Building Envelope, Small Footprint
See how expert Building Performance Specialist, Brian Cowan, renovated his own 1940’s bungalow to balance comfort, cost and carbon footprint! This project showcases how energy modeling and industry leading green solutions can be thoughtfully balanced to help you find your particular shade of green. In this initial phase, the house was transitioned from gas to fully electric including the installation of a mini-split heat pump and thoughtful relocation of the hot water tank. A combination of Indow Window retrofits and full triple pane window replacements show how “light green” and “deep green” solutions can be combined to meet your specific comfort needs without breaking the bank. While onsite you’ll see first-hand the exposed exterior features including rainscreen, carbon negative wood fiber insulation, and hardy plank siding. All of this sits on an existing slab on grade foundation that has been cost effectively retrofitted with below grade insulation to reduce thermal bridging. And there’s more… Phase II plans include a new roof with R-80 insulation, air sealing and solar panels. Come with your questions and talk with an expert about finding your shade of green!
