High-performance and Passive House construction have long relied on wood as a primary material. How can we maximize wood’s potential while integrating a new generation of low-carbon, ecologically integrated materials? Drawing on recent research from Perkins&Will, Jesce will explore the evolving landscape of regenerative materials, from advanced wood-based products to emerging solutions beyond straw and hemp. She will examine their readiness as building products, possible implications for enclosure design and performance, and practical considerations for specification. Together, we’ll navigate the opportunities and risks associated with both innovative and traditional materials to promote carbon reduction, occupant health, and circular economy.
